Cádiz CF is the main team in the city, but not the only one. Among the many teams in modest local football, Balón de Cád...iz CF stands out for its roots and contribution to the history of football in Cádiz and to Cádiz CF itself. Balón CF (founded under this name) has its origins in 1940, bearing this name because it emerged in the popular neighbourhood of “El Balón”, with its founder and “soul” being the fan D. Pedro Fernández.
In the 1944/45 season it was registered with the Federation and was runner-up in the Third Category Provincial Championship. On 11 February 1948 it was registered in the Civil Registry, and that same season it was proclaimed Third Category Provincial Champion, beating CD Santo Tomás from El Puerto de Santa María. Two years later it won the Third Category Provincial Championship again and the Delegation Cup, organised by the Cádiz delegation of the Andalusian Federation. At the end of the fifties, it began to strengthen ties with Cádiz CF, since the good relationship between Mr. Pedro Fernández and the president of Cádiz, Mr. Manuel Vieira, allowed the collaboration between both societies.
Close collaboration between Balón de Cádiz CF and Cádiz CF
Balón CF began to compete in the Regional, achieving its greatest sporting milestone in the 1959/60 season, by becoming champion of its group in the First Regional and after competing in a promotion play-off with Deportivo Ecijano, it was promoted to the Third Division. After the promotion, at the request of the president and his board of directors, it was decided to change its name to Balón de Cádiz CF so that fans and journalists would know where the team came from.
After the arrival in 1959 of Mr. Francisco Márquez Veiga to the presidency of Cádiz CF, a period of understanding began between both clubs. The collaboration of Cádiz CF through subsidies and loan of players is reciprocated by the Balón de Cádiz CF with the priority of any of its players.
The 60s became the golden decade of the Balón de Cádiz CF with nine consecutive seasons in the Third Division as well as being a finalist in the Sánchez Pizjuán Cup in the 1962/63 season among other minor achievements.
Distancing between Cádiz CF and Balón de Cádiz CF
With the arrival in 1970 of Mr. José A. Gutiérrez Trueba to the presidency of Cádiz CF, one of his priorities was to provide the club with its own subsidiary. In 1973, he offered the Balón de Cádiz CF in its structure as a club, to change its name and take advantage of its federative rights. The position of Mr. Pedro Fernández is clear, he accepts being a subsidiary but maintaining economic and administrative independence.
This lack of agreement caused the relationship between the two clubs to be negatively affected. From then on, Balón de Cádiz CF stopped receiving subsidies and was obliged to return all the players who were on loan to Cádiz CF. That same summer of 1973, Cádiz founded Cádiz CF B, which began to compete in the Second Regional.
In March 1977, Mr. Pedro Fernández suddenly passed away and was replaced by Eduardo Escobar. The situation of the club was critical and the only way to save the club was to accept its integration into the structure of Cádiz CF as a second subsidiary from the 1979/80 season, which has continued to this day.
Balón de Cádiz CF, a factory of players
Throughout history, there have been many players who have left Balón de Cádiz CF and have subsequently made a career for Cádiz CF. Chato Arauz and Paco Puig are remembered when they signed for Cadiz CF in the 1954/55 season. Then came Pepe Sierra, Manolin Bueno, Antonio Cabilla, Pepito Hernandez, Miguel Sanchez Ruz, Juan Torres, Juanito Mariana, Joselito Lara, Pepe Losada, the goalkeeper Jose Maria Calderon, Julito and Andres among others.
The list would also be endless of players loaned by Cadiz CF who would later make a career in the city's first team, such as Victoriero, Samper, Eliseo, Demetrio Berenguer, Luis Aragon, Santana, Gonzalez, Acedo, Otero, Juan Soriano, Gil, Paco Baena, Mane, etc.
