Before 1973, Tasmania Berlin were still known as SC Tasmania Berlin 1900. They had one of the most bizarre seasons in Bu...ndesliga history. In 1965, Germany was still split into East and West Germany, and so were their football leagues. As a symbolic gesture and for political reasons, the Bundesliga (from West Germany) wanted to include at least one club from Berlin in their league. Hertha had just been relegated from the Bundesliga, so they were not an option. Tennis Borussia Berlin had finished first in their regional Berlin league (one of the German 2nd divisions), but had lost to Bayern and Gladbach in the promotion playoffs. They rejected the oppurtunity to play in the Bundesliga, as did runners-up Spandauer SV (also from Berlin). Next in line was 3rd-place Tasmania Berlin, who accepted the spot in Bundesliga, just 2 weeks ahead of the 1965/66 season. Although they won their opening match against Karlsruher SC, Tasmania Berlin would achieve only one more win for the remainder of the campaign, scoring only 10 points by today's 3-point-rule. They had a goal difference of 15:108, and are presently still the worst ever Bundesliga team in history.
