The moment of his return to Cluj, on July 26, 1945, is described in an emotional paragraph of Mircea Luca's book: "I was afraid to step on stones, lest something move and change. Then, just as muted, he walked over to a closet. He opened with the key and pulled on a large, scrim-like drawer. And, with the same robot movements, he pulled 11 black-and-white T-shirts out of the drawer, carefully stacked on top of each other. He put them on the table and smoothed them a few times. No one said a word. I stared at my eyes so I wouldn't cry and looked in the pile for the number shirt. 5. It was my T-shirt.
